O'Reilly uses FrameMaker for many of their books, but also uses
other formats, including DocBook. At the "Linux Writers and Publishers
BOF" that we had last year in Atlanta (ALS 1999), Michael Hammel had
gathered a number of publishers together... I felt the general consensus
was that while most used Word historically, they were open to using
other formats. Several mentioned accepting StarOffice.

Realistically, the issue is that they want people to *write*. If they
can get a good author, and the author really wants to use a particular
format, the publisher will probably figure out how to accept it.

FYI, some info on that BOF is at http://www.graphics-muse.com/lwap.html

Dan
